Eat your heart out Simon and Garfunkel!! Most will say who are you talking about anyhow?
These fresh herbs can come to the rescue especially in the wintertime. They have antibacterial and antifungal properties and are excellent for treating an uncomfortable scalp. Coconut oil is moisturizing and hydrating, and tea tree essential oil is a powerful antifungal with antiseptic properties. Other herbs that can be used are comfrey, sage, catnip, nettles or oregano. Fresh is best for this.
Yield: about 1/2 cup
2 sprigs 5 grams of fresh rosemary
small bunch of fresh thyme 3 grams
1/2 c. coconut oil
10 drops tea tree essential oil
Place herbs and coconut oil in a small saucepan on low for 20-30 minutes. Strain. Stir in essential oil. Store in a covered jar. It will solidify at room temp below 76 degrees but will melt when it contacts the skin or scalp. This mixture will last 6 months because of low water content.
Massage a small amount into scalp to promote comfort and healing if needed. Hopefully leave in for 2 hours. Shampoo out.
**Omit tea tree oil if under 13 years of age and is safe for children over two years.
**Dried herbs can be used if infused in a cool dark place for 4-6 weeks covered. Strain before using.
