I love matcha. It is a type of green tea that is powdered, made from the actual green tea leaves which are finely ground. To consume it translates to actually "eating" the leaf instead of infusing it. So the benefits are much higher that drinking tea infused in water.
Matcha has high levels of antioxidants and provides an increase in energy. Some say it is like "calm alertness". I really like that. Japan produces the highest quality of matcha as it has one of the strictest farming regulations in the world.
It really is worth it to buy the higher-grade ceremonial matcha. When matcha is prepared correctly the flavor is irresistible and not bitter.
Matcha is often referred to as one of the wellness teas. It has the ability to increase endurance and promote focus.
To prepare matcha for iced drinks add matcha powder to a clean bowl and pour 1- 1.5 oz hot water over it and whisk in a "M" motion until frothy. Let cool for 2 minutes. You could also add the matcha suggested amount and water to a shaker and shake for about 10 seconds.
Try this recipe of matcha lavender sparkling lemonade.
1 part prepared matcha as instructed above.
4 parts sparkling water
2 parts lemon juice
1 part lavender simple syrup.
Make lavender simple syrup steeping two butterfly pea flowers (for purple color) (optional) and 2 tsp. dried lavender in just boiled water for 5-7 minutes. Strain immediately and mix 1 cup of this infusion with 1 cup sugar and stir until dissolved. Cool. This will keep refrigerated for 4 weeks.
Add 1 tsp. of matcha powder to 1-1.5 oz of hot water as instructed above. Cool.
Fill a tall glass with ice 2/3 the way up. Add 6-8 oz of sparkling water. Add the lavender simple syrup (1.5 oz) slowly. Add 3-4 oz lemon juice. Finally add prepared Matcha on top. Mix well and enjoy.
